Dual-bus 2 x 2 MB coupling memory for data exchange between SIMADYN D CPU modules in one subrack
The MM4 links multiple CPU modules through the L bus and C bus. It provides two 2 MB memory areas, a system-error relay, battery-backed data retention and integrated termination for both internal buses.
Subrack architecture check: Confirm that the installed module is MM4, preserve every configured inter-CPU connection and shared CS7 path, record the first and second CPU positions, verify the slot between them, inspect the subrack backup battery and document the system-error relay wiring.

Bus Memory Setup

The physical CPU order, configured coupling and internal bus continuity must agree before the MM4 can exchange data correctly.
CPU order
Record every CPU module and verify that the MM4 slot remains between the first and second CPUs.
Coupling project
Archive configured inter-CPU links, coupling-memory blocks and any shared CS7 serial-interface use.
L/C bus path
Inspect backplane connectors, integrated termination and adjacent modules before attributing all faults to memory.

Description

6DD1611-0AG0 is the MM4 coupling memory for SIMADYN D. A coupling memory is required when multiple CPU modules exchange configured data inside a subrack or share a CS7 serial interface through the internal bus system.
The module occupies one slot and should be placed between the first and second CPU modules. Its memory can be retained during a power failure by the 3.4 V backup battery in the subrack, so battery condition is part of every replacement and fault investigation.

Power-Fail Retention

The backup battery and system-error relay provide essential evidence when data disappears or the subrack enters STOP.
Battery state
Check the subrack 3.4 V backup battery, alarm history and maintenance date before removing power.
Relay wiring
Label the RDYIN or system-error relay circuit and record its normal and fault state.
Controlled restart
Restore power with the approved project available, then verify each CPU and inter-CPU data path separately.

FAQ

Q1
How can I confirm that 6DD1611-0AG0 is the correct coupling memory for my SIMADYN D subrack?
Check the MM4 order number, the need for L-bus and C-bus data exchange, the required 2 x 2 MB capacity, the CPU module order and the available slot between the first and second CPUs.
Q2
What should I archive before replacing 6DD1611-0AG0?
Save the complete SIMADYN D project and configured inter-CPU connections, then record CPU order, slot position, shared CS7 use, backplane arrangement, battery condition, relay wiring and the fault state of every CPU.
Q3
Why can CPU modules stop exchanging data after 6DD1611-0AG0 is installed?
Verify that the module is in the required position, the L and C bus connectors and integrated termination are intact, and the correct coupling-memory configuration was loaded. Check the adjacent CPUs before replacing the MM4 again.
Q4
How should I investigate a subrack STOP or system-error relay change involving 6DD1611-0AG0?
Capture the first CPU diagnostics and relay state, inspect backplane seating and supply voltage, then identify which CPU reported the fatal error. Do not use repeated power cycles before preserving the original event sequence.
Q5
Why can retained coupling data be lost after a power interruption with 6DD1611-0AG0?
Check the 3.4 V backup battery in the subrack, its maintenance history and battery alarm. Confirm module seating and the approved shutdown procedure before assuming that the MM4 memory itself has failed.
Q6
Can an MM3 or MM11 be substituted directly for 6DD1611-0AG0?
No automatic substitution should be made. MM3 and MM11 have different memory capacity and functions, and MM3 includes a real-time clock. Review the configured memory use, CPU links, clock requirements and project data before considering any alternative.
