The PROSOFT MVI71-AFC is a discontinued single‑slot 1771 backplane‑compatible flow computer module for Rockwell Automation PLC‑5 processors. The MVI71-AFC performs dedicated flow calculations for hydrocarbon gases and liquids, supporting 8 meter runs with AGA3, AGA7, AGA8, and API MPMS Chapters 11 and 12 measurement standards. Flow rates, accumulated volumes, accumulated mass, and accumulated energy are transferred directly to the processor. The PROSOFT MVI71-AFC enables accurate, in‑rack flow measurement without external flow computers or dedicated SCADA hardware.

The MVI71-AFC is an in-rack Liquid & Gas Flow Computer Module for the PLC platform. The MVI71-AFC Flow computer module supports 8 meter channels for the measurement of hydrocarbon gases and liquids using currently accepted industry measurement standards.
The module calculates flow rates, accumulated volumes, accumulated mass and accumulated energy (heating value). The calculation results are transferred back to the Processor memory for use in the application ladder program or for transfer back to a SCADA host.
The AFC module operates as a powerful flow computer module, augmenting the operation of the PLC processor by providing a dedicated and accurate set of flow calculations; the results of which are easily available to process monitoring and control applications developed in the PLC.
The module is highly-configurable, allowing each of the 8 meter runs to be individually setup to meet the specific requirement of an application. Some of the configurable parameters include:

A2: Gas: AGA3 (1992) for orifice meters, AGA7 for turbine meters, AGA8 (1992) for compressibility. Liquids: API MPMS Chapters 11 and 12.
Q3: How many meter runs can one module handle?
A3: The MVI71-AFC supports up to 8 meter runs per module, with individual channel configuration. Scan time is under 1 second for all channels.
Q4: Does the module communicate directly with SCADA systems?
A4: Yes. The two application ports support Modbus RTU or ASCII as a slave device, allowing SCADA masters to poll the onboard Modbus memory map containing process data, archive records, and event logs.
Q5: Can the module be installed in a remote rack?
A5: The MVI71-AFC works in a local rack in any rack addressing mode (1/2, 1, or 2‑slot mode). It will not work in a remote rack configuration.
