The Allen‑Bradley 1746‑OAP12 is a 12‑point high‑current AC output module for the SLC 500 system. This 1746‑OAP12 provides 120/240V AC switching across two independently fused six‑channel groups, suited for motors, heaters, solenoids, and other AC loads. The 1746‑OAP12 features fast 1 ms ON‑to‑OFF response and a dedicated blown‑fuse LED for instant diagnostics. Its configurable JP1 jumper allows the processor to either continue running or fault upon fuse failure, offering flexible safety integration. With Class I Div 2 certification and wide voltage tolerance, the 1746‑OAP12 delivers robust, reliable output control for demanding industrial applications.
Independent fused groups – Each 6‑channel bank has its own fuse; if one blows, the other group continues operating.
Configurable fault handling – JP1 jumper lets you choose continued operation or processor shutdown on fuse failure.
High output current – 2.0 A per point (9.0 A per module) at 30°C handles heavy loads in a compact 12‑point footprint.
Global voltage support – 85‑265V AC range covers 120V and 240V systems without derating.
Immediate fault visibility – Blown‑fuse LED speeds troubleshooting and reduces downtime.
Hazardous area ready – UL/CSA Class I, Division 2 approved for explosive environments.
12 solid‑state AC outputs arranged in two isolated groups of 6
Wide input voltage: 85 – 265V AC, 47 – 63 Hz
Fast switching: 1 ms OFF‑to‑ON, 11 ms ON‑to‑OFF
Each group fused with a 6.3A SAN‑O HQ fuse (field‑replaceable)
Blown‑fuse LED indicator per group
JP1 jumper for processor response selection (continue / fault)
Removable terminal block with screw connections (accepts two 14 AWG wires)
1500V electro‑optical isolation between I/O and logic
Class I Division 2 Groups A,B,C,D hazardous location certification
UL, CSA, CE compliant
The 1746‑OAP12 translates logic signals from the SLC 500 processor into AC power switching for field loads. The processor sends commands via the 5V backplane; the module’s internal triac circuits then connect or disconnect the AC line voltage (85‑265V) to the corresponding output terminals. The 12 outputs are split into two galvanically isolated groups of six, each with a common return and a dedicated fuse (6.3A). The triac design yields fast OFF‑to‑ON transition (1 ms) suitable for both resistive and inductive loads.
The JP1 jumper defines system behaviour on fuse failure. In its factory position (pins 1‑2), the processor continues running; only the group with the blown fuse is de‑energised. When set to pins 2‑3, a blown fuse triggers a non‑recoverable processor fault, forcing all outputs OFF and setting the major fault bit. The front‑panel red LED lights up immediately when a fuse opens, provided the module has both backplane and external load power. The module draws 370 mA from the 5V backplane and uses no 24V current, simplifying power supply sizing. All field wiring terminates on a removable colour‑coded terminal block. Optical isolation (1500V) protects the controller from field transients and ground loops.
