Description

The Bently Nevada 74712 is the high-temperature version of the 9200 two-wire moving-coil Seismoprobe velocity transducer. It generates a voltage proportional to vibration velocity for absolute, free-space-referenced vibration measurement.

Part-number configuration: option 03 specifies 90-degree orientation and a 4.5 Hz minimum operating frequency; option 11 specifies an isolated circular M10 x 1 mounting base; option 02 specifies a top connector; option 00 specifies no agency approvals.

Applications
  • Bearing-housing vibration measurement.
  • Machinery casing vibration measurement.
  • Structural vibration monitoring at elevated temperature.
  • Installations requiring a self-generating two-wire velocity signal.

Features

Features
High-temperature design
Official operating and storage range: -29 to +204 degrees C.
Two-wire output
Moving-coil velocity output; no external excitation power is required.
Configured orientation
90 degrees, within the official orientation tolerance.
Minimum frequency
4.5 Hz (270 cpm) for ordering option 03.
Sensitivity
20 mV/mm/s (500 mV/in/s), +/-5% under official calibration conditions.
Environmental resistance
Dust and moisture resistant; up to 95% relative humidity, noncondensing.

Functions

Functions

Measurement: converts mechanical motion of the seismic mass into an electrical signal proportional to vibration velocity.

Reference: measures absolute motion relative to free space rather than relative shaft motion.

Signal path: output is taken across terminals A and B with the specified termination.

Installation role: supports casing, bearing-housing and structural vibration monitoring where the verified environment matches the official limits.

Specifications

Specifications

10 kohm across terminals A and B.
Displacement limit
2.54 mm peak-to-peak maximum.
Velocity reference
25 mm/s at +22 degrees C, 100 Hz and 10 kohm load.
Coil resistance
1.25 kohm, +/-5%.
Locked-coil inductance
125 mH typical.
Amplitude linearity
+/-5% from 0.254 to 127 mm/s at 100 Hz.
Shock resistance
50 g peak.
Maximum lead length
305 m.

Installation & Wiring

Installation & Wiring
  1. Mount at the configured 90-degree orientation.
  2. Use the isolated M10 x 1 base and apply 5.6 N m (50 in lbf) mounting torque.
  3. Verify the top-mount connector and mating cable before installation.
  4. Connect the velocity output across terminals A and B with the required load.
  5. Route standard installation wiring in conduit and use a protected enclosure.
  6. Confirm whether optional splash protection is required.

Theory of Operation

Theory of Operation

The Seismoprobe uses a moving-coil seismic mechanism. Relative motion between the internal seismic mass and coil assembly induces a voltage. Within the documented operating band, the output voltage is proportional to vibration velocity.

The transducer is self-generating, so it does not require an external power supply. Correct orientation, termination and mounting are necessary to retain the documented response.
