Theory of Operation

The 1C31122G01 functions as the primary control interface between the Ovation DCS controller and discrete field devices. It communicates with the controller via the I/O bus, translating software logic commands into physical voltage outputs.

Each of the 16 channels employs solid-state MOSFET switching technology. When the controller issues a logic “on” command, the module applies the field-supplied DC voltage (5–60 VDC) to the corresponding output terminal, energizing the connected load. When the command is “off,” the output is de-energized. Unlike mechanical relays, solid-state switching eliminates contact bounce, arcing, and mechanical wear, significantly extending module life in high-frequency switching applications.

The module provides channel-to-channel and channel-to-logic isolation for noise immunity. Built-in diagnostics continuously monitor output status and report faults to the controller, enabling rapid identification of field wiring issues or load faults. Configuration and channel assignment are performed through the Ovation engineering workstation.
