Description

The F7126 is a high-performance DC/DC power supply module manufactured by HIMA for powering PES H51q and HIMax safety automation systems. This F7126 module converts a 24 V DC input into a regulated 5 V DC output with 10 A continuous current capacity. The F7126 features safe isolation between input and output, overvoltage protection, current limitation, and short circuit proof output. With its front-panel test socket and potentiometer for voltage adjustment, the F7126 enables precise calibration. Designed for redundancy, the F7126 supports parallel operation with balanced load sharing.

Competitive Advantage

  • SIL 3 Certified Power Solution – Engineered specifically for HIMA safety instrumented systems, eliminating the need for external safety-rated power supplies

  • Redundant Operation Ready – Supports parallel redundant configuration with precise output voltage matching (±0.025 V) to prevent unbalanced loading

  • Comprehensive Protection Suite – Combines overvoltage protection (6.5 V ± 0.5 V), current limiting (≈13 A), and short circuit proof output in a single module

  • Field-Adjustable Output – Front-panel potentiometer enables stepless voltage adjustment without removing the module from the rack

  • Rugged Industrial Construction – Wide temperature range (–20°C to +70°C) and robust design withstand harsh industrial environments

  • High Efficiency – ≥77% efficiency reduces heat dissipation and improves long-term reliability

Features

  • DC/DC Conversion – Converts 24 V DC input to stable 5 V DC output for powering processors, communication modules, and I/O components

  • Safe Isolation – Galvanic isolation between input and output prevents high-side faults from affecting low-voltage logic circuits

  • Adjustable Output Voltage – Continuously adjustable from 5 V DC ± 0.5 V via front-panel potentiometer; factory preset at 5.4 V DC

  • Front-Panel Test Socket – Enables convenient voltage monitoring without disconnecting wiring

  • Overvoltage Protection – Set to 6.5 V ± 0.5 V to safeguard connected modules from voltage spikes

  • Current Limitation – Approx. 13 A limiting protects the module and downstream components during overload conditions

  • Short Circuit Proof Output – Automatic shutdown and recovery prevents damage from output shorts

  • Redundancy Compatibility – Supports parallel operation with output voltage matching tolerance of 0.025 V for balanced load sharing

  • LED Status Indication – Visual indicators for power presence and fault conditions

  • Compact 8 TE Format – Space-efficient design for 19-inch rack installations

Theory of Operation

The F7126 functions as a high-reliability DC/DC converter that transforms an unregulated 24 V DC input (with tolerance of -15% to +20%, allowing operation from 18 to 36 V DC) into a precisely regulated 5 V DC output. The module employs a switching power supply topology with safe isolation between the primary (input) and secondary (output) circuits, ensuring that voltage disturbances or faults on the 24 V DC bus do not propagate to the sensitive 5 V logic circuits powering the CPU, I/O, and communication modules.

The input stage includes a 6.3 A time-lag fuse for overcurrent protection, followed by EMI filtering to meet VDE 0871/0877 Class B interference limits. The conversion stage uses high-frequency switching regulation to achieve ≥77% efficiency. The output stage incorporates overvoltage protection circuitry set to trip at 6.5 V ± 0.5 V, preventing damage to downstream modules in the event of a regulator failure. Current limiting is set at approximately 13 A, allowing brief overloads while protecting the module from sustained overcurrent conditions. The output is fully short circuit proof, with automatic current limiting and recovery.

A front-panel potentiometer allows the user to adjust the output voltage steplessly within ±0.5 V of the nominal 5 V setting, with factory calibration at 5.4 V DC to compensate for voltage drops in long backplane runs. The test socket enables field verification of the output voltage without disconnecting loads.

For redundant configurations, the F7126 supports parallel operation. To prevent unbalanced load sharing—which can reduce system reliability—the output voltage difference between redundant modules must not exceed 0.025 V. This tight tolerance ensures that both modules share the load approximately equally, maximizing the availability of the power subsystem.
