The 942 separate series are industrial controls performing distance measurement by using an ultrasonic beam. They are the most versat sensors of all the product range; they feature two analog outputs (4 20 mA and 0 V to 10 V), Four switching outputs, parallel data outputs serial link RS-232. The sensor head has no adjustment and may be m in the most remote or difficult places (top of tanks, inside of machine places.) The control box is mountable on DIN rail; it houses all the adjustments. Adjustment can be performed in a matter of seconds vi coding wheels and switches on the front panel of the control box. Adv programming is done on a PC, connected with the RS-232 link. The s (under Microsoft Windows) provides a very easy man-machine interfa extended possibilities: Digital Signal Processing parameters, cycle tim slope, etc.

Stainless steel M30 heads, IP65
Plastic control box with screw terminals, IP 40
Synchronising/hold input: To avoid mutual interference from several sensors, they are very sim synchronised by connecting their synchronising/hold input (pin 4) together. If the measure need stopped, connect the synchronising/hold input to the ground; the output stays stable. Ultrasonic beam power (sensitivity) adjustable by switch
Four switching outputs, Open collector PNP: set points 1 and 2, adjustable by coded wheels ; U (target close), Overrange (target far or absent).
NO/NC adjustable by switch
Two Analog outputs (4 mA to 20 mA and 0 Vdc to 10 Vdc)
Temperature compensation
Scalable Analog Outputs: The 0–10 V and 4–20 mA ranges can be mapped to any start and end point within the 1,500 mm sensing window using the front‑panel coding wheels or PC software.
Switching Point Control: Independently set the two PNP outputs (SP1, SP2) to trigger at specific distances. Hysteresis is programmable by software (default 1%) to prevent output chatter near the switching threshold.
Multiplex Parallel Output: The 8‑bit digital interface sequentially outputs distance data in BCD or hexadecimal format, gated by strobe signals.
Hold/Synchronisation (HLD Input): Grounding this input freezes all outputs at the last measured distance—useful for snapshot measurements or eliminating mutual interference when multiple sensors operate in close proximity. HLD must also be grounded during programming.
Overrange/Underrange Indication (ORA/URA): ORA activates when the target is beyond 1,500 mm (analog outputs saturate at maximum: 10 V / 20 mA). URA activates within the blind zone (below 150 mm; analog outputs saturate at minimum: 0 V / 4 mA).
Sensitivity Reduction: Switching sensitivity to ~33% reduces both maximum range and the ultrasonic beam cone, beneficial when ignoring distant clutter or narrowing the detection field for precise positioning.
Q1: What is the minimum sensing distance of the Honeywell 942-M0A-2D-1G1-220S?
A: The minimum sensing distance is 150 mm (5.9 inches). Within this blind zone, the URA output activates and the analog outputs saturate at their minimum values (0 V / 4 mA).
Q2: Can the analog output range be customized without a PC?
A: Yes. Set the front‑panel “LIMITS/SETPOINTS” switch to ON, then use the two 10‑turn coding wheels: SP1 defines the distance corresponding to 0 V / 4 mA, and SP2 defines the distance corresponding to 10 V / 20 mA. This scales the analog outputs to any sub‑range within the 150–1500 mm window.
Q3: How do I prevent acoustic interference when using multiple ultrasonic sensors close together?
A: Connect the HLD (Hold/Synchronise) inputs of all sensors together. This synchronises the ultrasonic pulse transmission across all units, triggering them simultaneously so that no sensor receives stray echoes from another.
Q4: What voltage and output types does the 942-M0A-2D-1G1-220S support?
A: It operates on 19–30 V DC (≤50 mA current draw). Outputs include: 0…10 V analog, 4…20 mA analog, two PNP switching outputs (100 mA, NO/NC selectable), overrange/underrange outputs, RS‑232 serial, and an 8‑bit parallel digital interface.
Q5: Is the 942-M0A-2D-1G1-220S compatible with all 942 series sensor heads?
A: The 942-M0A control box is designed for use with 942 and 947 series sensor heads. For the 220S model, the compatible sensor heads include the 942-A4M-2D-K220S (M30 stainless steel, IP65, connector type, 220 kHz). Mating cables and connectors are specified in the 942-M3A kit documentation.
