Safety Certification |
TÜV Risk Class 5, SIL 3 (IEC 61508) |
The T3481 is a high‑integrity Guarded digital output module from ICS Triplex‘s Trusted/Regent safety platform, designed to drive critical final control elements in emergency shutdown (ESD) and fire & gas (F&G) systems. The T3481 provides 16 fully monitored output channels, each rated at 0.5 A continuous with 15 A surge capability. Its dual‑redundant fail‑safe architecture ensures that any single internal fault cannot produce a hazardous output. The T3481 continuously monitors field wiring for open circuits, shorts, and blown fuses. With TÜV Risk Class 5 certification and 2500 V isolation, the T3481 is ideal for SIL 3 safety instrumented systems in oil & gas, power generation, and chemical processing.
Power Generation – Turbine trip loops, reactor cooling pump controls, burner management systems (BMS)
Chemical Processing – High-temperature shutdown valves, SIL 3 safety interlock loops
Railway Signaling – Switch machine and signal lamp controls with IRIG-B time synchronization
Nuclear Power – 10 CFR 50 Appendix B qualified safety-related actuation
General Industrial Safety – Machine guarding, emergency stop circuits, and safety interlock systems
16 Guarded Outputs – Two isolated groups of eight channels for flexible field wiring
Dual‑Redundant Fail‑Safe Architecture – Two output switches in series with independent drive signals; both must be ON for current to flow
Automatic Line Monitoring – Detects open circuits, short circuits, and ground faults without cycling the field device
Hot‑Replaceable – Replace module while system remains operational
Per‑Channel Fusing – Individual 3A fuses accessible from front panel
Comprehensive Diagnostics – Active/fault, shutdown, blown fuse, and per‑channel output status LEDs
2500 V Isolation – Electrical barrier between field and logic circuits
TÜV Risk Class 5 Certified – Non‑interfering safety integrity
Parallel Fault‑Tolerant Operation – Two modules can be paralleled for 1+1 redundancy
Auto‑Self‑Testing – Continuous testing of voter circuits, Safetybus interface, and logic
The T3481 receives triplicated write data commands from the processor over the I/O Safetybus. Onboard, the triplicated data are routed to two independent voter sections and associated FPGAs, which provide voted data to two output control switches connected in series with the load. The output is energized only when both switches are ON; if either switch is OFF, the load is de‑energized. This series‑switch configuration with independent drive signals ensures fail‑safe load activation—any single failure can only affect one drive signal or switch, never causing a false output.
The module‘s diagnostic functions automatically test voter circuits (processor‑initiated discrepant data injection), Safetybus interface logic (loopback testing), and output fuses. Line monitoring continuously checks for open circuits, short circuits, and ground faults. When a fault is detected, the module annunciates via front‑panel LEDs (FAULT, BLOWN FUSE, etc.) and reports to the processor for SOE (Sequence of Events) recording. In parallel redundant configurations, two modules are cross‑strapped; one actively drives the load while the standby is ready to assume control if the active module fails.
