SLC 500 4-Channel Isolated Analog Input Module
Isolated Current/Voltage Input Module
1746SC-INI4VI Isolated Analog Input Module
Main Function:
The Allen Bradley 1746SC-INI4VI module provides four isolated analog inputs directly to the SLC 500 system, supports mixed current/voltage connections, and allows independent range and filtering settings for each channel, making it suitable for high-interference environments such as frequency converters.
Core Parameters:
The 1746SC-INI4VI provides 4 differential inputs (750Vdc isolation), 312.8 nA/count in current mode and 312.8 μV/count in voltage mode at 16-bit resolution, with the fastest current update of 14 ms and voltage update of 18 ms for the four inputs, and a backplane current of 570 mA @ 5V.
Description
The Allen Bradley 1746SC-INI4VI is an isolated analog input card used on the SLC 500 platform. It completely isolates the four channels, avoiding crosstalk and ground loop problems between field signals.

The Allen Bradley 1746SC-INI4VI features built-in 750Vdc channel isolation, eliminating the cost and wiring hassle of external isolation barriers. It is also compatible with Allen-Bradley's original installation method and achieves 0.05% current input accuracy at room temperature. Long-term stability is ensured by automatic calibration.
1. What is the main difference between the 1746SC-INI4VI and the standard 1746-NI4?
The standard NI4 is non-isolated (shared common), while the INI4VI provides 750 VDC channel-to-channel isolation. This prevents ground loops and cross-talk.
The INI4VI offers 16-bit resolution, providing significantly higher precision than the standard NI4.
The INI4VI is entirely software-configurable via RSLogix 500; it has no DIP switches or jumpers to set.
2. Does the module require an external 24V DC power supply?
No. The module is powered entirely through the SLC 500 backplane.
It draws approximately 570 mA at 5V DC and 0 mA at 24V DC from the backplane.
3. Can I mix Voltage and Current inputs on the same module?
Yes. Each of the 4 channels is individually programmable. You can have a 4-20mA sensor on Channel 0 and a ±10V sensor on Channel 1 simultaneously without any interference.
4. What should I do with unused channels?
Software: It is best practice to Disable unused channels in the configuration to decrease the total module update time.
Hardware: For unused channels, it is recommended to short the (+) and (-) terminals together to prevent stray noise.
5. How fast is the module update time?
The update time depends on the number of enabled channels and the selected Filter Frequency.
With a high-speed filter, the update rate can be as fast as 10ms per channel. Choosing a 50Hz or 60Hz filter for noise rejection will increase the update time.
Each channel allows for individual selection of the filtering frequency, with several options including 500 Hz and 60 Hz, allowing users to balance speed and noise reduction.
Supports several data formats: engineering units, PID percentage, 1746-NI4 compatible format, and custom ratios.
Input protection is included: the current channel can withstand 33 mA continuously without issues and will not burn out even with instantaneous 70 mA; the voltage channel can withstand up to 50 Vdc.
Operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C, storage temperature range is -40°C to 85°C, and humidity range is 5% to 95% without condensation.
It has UL/cUL (Class I, Div 2), CE, UKCA, and FCC certifications, making it suitable for export devices.
