The PS69-DPM is a PROFIBUS DPV1 Master module that seamlessly integrates PROFIBUS connectivity into CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 controllers. Supporting both cyclic I/O control and CIP messaging, the PS69-DPM combines DPV0 and DPV1 functionality within a single-slot 1769 backplane-compatible format. Configuration and diagnostics are performed via the PROSOFT.fdt (SYCON.net) tool, making the PS69-DPM an ideal solution for industrial applications requiring high-performance PROFIBUS communication
Discrete Factory Automation – Connecting sensors, actuators, and drives to CompactLogix/MicroLogix controllers via PROFIBUS DP
Process Control Systems – Integrating PROFIBUS instruments and analyzers into Rockwell Automation environments
Retrofit & Migration – Replacing legacy RIF 1769-DPM modules without modifying existing ladder logic or configuration
Multi-Vendor Integration – Bridging Rockwell PLCs with PROFIBUS devices from Siemens, ABB, and other manufacturers
Distributed I/O Networks – Building cost-effective distributed control systems with up to 125 slave devices across multiple segments
Asset Management – Utilizing FDT/DTM-based diagnostic capabilities for predictive maintenance and device health monitoring
Single-slot, 1769 backplane-compatible module
PROFIBUS DPV1 Master with full DPV0 and DPV1 service support
Supports up to 125 PROFIBUS slave devices across up to 32 devices per bus segment expandable via repeaters
PROFIBUS certified, UL 508, C-UL and CE certified
PROSOFT.fdt (SYCON.net) FDT-based configuration tool included
RIF 1769-DPM project conversion compatibility for legacy system migration
Sample ladder logic files and Add-On Instruction (AOI) provided for RSLogix 5000 (V16 or higher)
Diagnostic serial interface for real-time system monitoring and troubleshooting
Supports CIP messaging for acyclic data exchange on platforms that support messaging
Q1: Which Rockwell controllers are compatible with the PS69-DPM?
A1: The PS69-DPM is compatible with Rockwell Automation CompactLogix processors that feature the 1769 I/O bus capability, as well as the MicroLogix 1500 LRP controller with 1764-LRP/A Rev.2.0 processor. For CompactLogix systems, RSLogix 5000 version 13.00 or higher is required.
Q2: How do I configure the PROFIBUS network using the PS69-DPM?
A2: The PROFIBUS network is configured via the PROSOFT.fdt (SYCON.net) configuration tool. Connect the serial diagnostic interface of the module (using the supplied CABLE-SRV-MD8) to your PC‘s COM port, then use PROSOFT.fdt to set bus parameters, assign slave addresses, and configure the I/O mapping.
Q3: My PS69-DPM is installed in Slot 1 of a 1768-L43/L45 processor and is not working. What should I do?
A3: This is a known issue in RSLogix 5000 versions 18 and 19. The solution is to move the PS69-DPM module to any slot other than Slot 1 (while remaining within the power supply distance rating). Alternatively, you can downgrade to RSLogix 5000 revision 16 or upgrade to revision 20 when available.
Q4: Does the PS69-DPM support DPV1 messaging with MicroLogix 1500 controllers?
A4: No. As of the PS69-DPM‘s release, MicroLogix 1500 controllers do not support CIP messaging for generic Compact I/O modules. Therefore, DPV1 services (MSAC1 Read/Write, Alarm Handling) are only supported when using a CompactLogix processor that supports CIP messaging. MicroLogix systems are limited to cyclic I/O and basic I/O-based diagnostic functions.
Q5: Can the PS69-DPM be installed while the rack is powered on?
A5: No. The PS69-DPM is NOT hot-swappable. You must always remove power from the rack before inserting or removing this module. Failure to do so may result in damage to the module, the processor, or other connected devices.
