The Woodward 5501-380 is a high-performance TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) power supply module engineered for the MicroNet and 5009 digital control platforms. This 5501-380 module accepts dual 120 VAC or 120 VDC input and delivers six independently regulated 24 VDC outputs to power CPU, I/O, and communication modules. The 5501-380 features front-panel LED diagnostics for real-time status monitoring. With a wide –40°C to +70°C operating range and comprehensive protection circuitry, the 5501-380 ensures uninterrupted operation in mission-critical turbine and engine control applications.
TMR Triple Modular Redundancy – Supports dual power supply configurations with automatic failover and load sharing; single module failure triggers毫秒级无扰切换 without system interruption
Dual-Format Input Compatibility – Accepts both 120 VAC and 120 VDC, eliminating the need for separate power supply variants for AC and DC plant environments
Six Independent Regulated Outputs – Provides 24 VDC across six channels (two @ 12 A, two @ 5 VDC/20 A, two 5 VDC pre-charge) for comprehensive backplane power distribution
Comprehensive Hardware Protection – Built-in overvoltage (OVP), overcurrent (OCP), short-circuit, overtemperature (OTP), and input phase-loss protection
Hot-Swap Capability – Field-replaceable without system shutdown in redundant configurations, minimizing critical downtime
Passive Convection Cooling – Fanless design eliminates moving parts, reducing maintenance requirements and improving reliability in dusty environments
Dual Input Voltage Support – Operates on 120 VAC (47–63 Hz) or 120 VDC with wide tolerance ranges
Six Regulated DC Outputs – Powers entire TMR chassis including triple-redundant CPUs and I/O modules
TMR Redundant Architecture – Two 5501-380 modules can be installed in PA1/PA2 slots with backplane coordination for zero-interruption power
Front-Panel Status LEDs – Four indicators (OK, Power Supply Fault, Overtemperature, Input Fault) for rapid on-site diagnostics
Comprehensive Protection Suite – Overvoltage, overcurrent, short-circuit, overtemperature, and input phase-loss protection
Fanless Passive Cooling – Convection-based heat dissipation with overtemperature shutdown above 90°C
Hot-Swap Ready – Supports live module replacement in redundant configurations
Industrial-Grade Construction – Rugged metal-shielded housing with EMI immunity for harsh environments
The 5501-380 functions as the primary power distribution backbone for Woodward MicroNet TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) control systems. Upon receiving 120 VAC or 120 VDC input power via front-panel terminals, the module converts and regulates the supply into six independently controlled 24 VDC outputs distributed across the system backplane.
In a redundant configuration, two 5501-380 modules are installed in dedicated PA1 (Power Supply #1) and PA2 (Power Supply #2) chassis slots. A motherboard on the rear of the power supply chassis coordinates the two modules, enabling load sharing under normal conditions and seamless automatic failover should one module fail or be removed. The architecture ensures that the TMR CPU, I/O, and communication modules remain fully energized even during a single power supply fault.
The module incorporates comprehensive protection circuitry: input overvoltage and undervoltage detection, output overcurrent limiting, short-circuit lockout, and overtemperature monitoring. An overtemperature fault triggers shutdown above 90°C, with automatic recovery when temperature falls below 75°C. Front-panel LEDs provide real-time status—green "OK" indicates normal operation, while red LEDs signal input fault, power supply fault, or overtemperature conditions. The fanless passive convection cooling design eliminates moving parts, enhancing long-term reliability in high-vibration and dust-prone industrial environments.
